Dear friends of HSNY -

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to shroud our community with uncertainty, HSNY has decided today to cancel the Gala & Charity Auction on August 5th.

It was a difficult decision for HSNY to make, but the health and wellbeing of our members is our top concern. While we are no longer toasting in person this year, please know that HSNY is working hard to continue supporting watchmakers and our community financially with initiatives such as the Working Watchmakers Grant, the new Howard Robbins Award for Watchmaking Schools and the Henry B. Fried Scholarship for Watchmaking Students

Gala guests will receive refunds by July 1 and have priority access to purchase tickets for HSNY’s 2021 Gala & Charity Auction once a date is set.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to making next year’s Gala the best one yet. In the meantime, HSNY wishes you good health and we hope to see you again soon.

Best wishes,
Horological Society of New York

Please enjoy this look back at HSNY’s 2019 Gala & Charity Auction.

Lot 4 - NOMOS Glashütte Tangente Sport Limited Edition For HODINKEE & More

HODINKEE's second collaboration with NOMOS Glashütte sold out quickly, but one watch was held back for HSNY. As a sportier alternative to the classic Tangente, the watch's water resistance is tested to 100 meters and the indexes and heat-blued hands are filled with white Super-Luminova, which glows green in low-light conditions. To make the watch as versatile as possible, HODINKEE selected a dark grey dial, applying a soft lacquer-like coating to it that gives off a heather grey feel. The small seconds sub-dial features a subtle snailed decoration, offering a touch of added texture to the timekeeping display. Only 300 numbered editions of the NOMOS Tangente Sport Limited Edition for HODINKEE were produced. This lot also includes an editor signed copy of the HODINKEE "Watches" Book, published by Assouline, and dinner with Editor-in-Chief Jack Forster and Editor Cole Pennington at Carbone Restaurant in New York. Donated by HODINKEE.

Estimate $3,500 - $6,500

Donated by Grand Seiko.

Estimate: $6,000 - $9,000

Lot 6 - Patek Philippe White Gold 'Grande Ellipse' Ref. 3589G, Made in 1974

When launched in 1970, the reference 3589 was designed to house the caliber 28-255, the thinnest and finest automatic movement available at the time. This is the same caliber used within the Patek Nautilus ref. 3700/1A when it was later released in 1976. Made with a wide selection of dial and strap/bracelet options, this white gold version features the highly desirable blued gold dial and white gold roman numerals. Accompanied by a Patek Philippe box and Extract From the Archives. Donated by Collectability.

Henry B. Fried Scholarship

Most watchmaking schools in the USA are free. Tuition is covered by a sponsoring brand, and usually the only school expense that the students cover are their tools. These schools are full-time two year programs, meaning paying for living expenses can be difficult. This is where the Henry B. Fried Scholarship comes in; the Horological Society of New York wants to help American watchmaking students succeed in every way.
