Watchmakers Helping Watchmakers
The Horological Society of New York (HSNY) was founded in 1866 as a guild by watchmakers for watchmakers. Medical and employment benefits were provided as a way for colleagues to help each other in times of need. Since then, HSNY has evolved from its guild foundations to provide horological lectures, classes, scholarships, a research library and more. However, the intent remains for HSNY to continue helping watchmakers prosper.
The coronavirus pandemic has changed the world, drastically altering the way we live and work. HSNY is returning to its roots and focusing on promoting the welfare of watchmakers with the Working Watchmakers Grant.
Details
HSNY’s Working Watchmakers Grant is available to all watch and clock makers in the United States. Applicants must include proof of their employment (or prior employment) and certifications. Applicants also need to detail how the coronavirus pandemic has affected their business or income. Those selected to receive the grant will be asked to fill out a W-9 form before receiving payment. The grant is open only to U.S. citizens. Applications will be kept completely confidential. Payment type can be direct deposit or physical mailed check.
Through the Working Watchmakers Grant, HSNY will allocate $100,000 to supporting America’s watchmakers during this time of need. Payments of $1,000 will be made to 100 watchmakers on a first-come-first-served basis.
HSNY’s Working Watchmakers Grant is made possible by generous donations from individual donors interested in the well-being of watch and clock makers.
